In line with<\/span> its activities<\/span> on supporting<\/span> the implementation of the<\/span> Wildlife Act<\/span> and the fight against<\/span> illegal logging<\/span>, was held onWednesday, January 28, 2015, a<\/span> training seminar<\/span> for<\/span> the gendarmes<\/span> assigned to<\/span> brigades<\/span> in Franceville<\/span>. This<\/span> working session<\/span> chaired by the President<\/span> of the Court of<\/span> Franceville<\/span> took place<\/span> in the<\/span> Provincial Directorate<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> meeting room<\/span> of the Water and Forests<\/span> and<\/span> the theme “<\/span>The laws governing<\/span> Forest<\/span>, Wildlife and Aquatic Ecosystems<\/span>.”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by the<\/span> Provincial Directorate<\/span> of<\/span> Forestry<\/span> and Conservation<\/span> Justice,<\/span> the workshop<\/span> aimed to give<\/span> participants<\/span> the necessary<\/span> basics<\/span> for a better understanding<\/span> of\u00a0<\/span> ivory trafficking<\/span> and<\/span> illegal logging.<\/span> Also,<\/span> the objectives were<\/span> to build capacity training<\/span> for the protection<\/span> of wildlife and<\/span> the forest,<\/span> know and<\/span> master the<\/span> criminal proceedings,<\/span> inform<\/span> the agents<\/span> benefit<\/span> from these<\/span> themes<\/span> that constitute<\/span> the State’s<\/span> priorities<\/span> but also<\/span> communities and<\/span> create a<\/span> dynamic network<\/span> to share<\/span> experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

This session<\/span> focused on<\/span> four active<\/span> interventions<\/span> of the participants.<\/span> The NGO<\/span> Conservation Justice<\/span> opened<\/span> the session by<\/span> emphasizing<\/span> the specificity<\/span> of the ivory trade<\/span>, panther<\/span> skins and<\/span> apes<\/span> from Central<\/span> Africa<\/span> to other continents<\/span>. Then<\/span>, the Registrar of<\/span> Bat\u00e9k\u00e9<\/span> Plateaux<\/span> Park<\/span> introduced the<\/span> legislation governing<\/span> national parks<\/span> offenses<\/span> before the head<\/span> office of the<\/span> Wildlife<\/span> Provincial Directorate<\/span> of Water and Forests<\/span>\u00a0 recalled<\/span> the<\/span> legislation on<\/span> wildlife protection<\/span> and<\/span> wild plants<\/span>. The President<\/span> of the Tribunal,<\/span> Madame Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rique<\/span> BITAR<\/span> presented<\/span> to agents<\/span> the procedure applicable to<\/span> offenses<\/span> of<\/span> Forestry<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Finally, the process<\/span> of<\/span> questions and answers<\/span> was initiated<\/span> before<\/span> the session<\/span> closed.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is hoped<\/span> that such exchanges<\/span> and<\/span> training<\/span> will yield<\/span> concrete results in<\/span> the fight against<\/span> trafficking of ivory<\/span> but also of wood<\/span>.
